| 110 Pound Bin Overfill Fee Will Not Apply to Northampton 5th Aug 2008 |
The Telegraph reports on the news that the Government is forcing councils to impose fines of £75 - £110 for the henious crime of overfilling the bin, potentially bigger than the £80 fine for shoplifting or being drunk and disorderly. However, the Liberal Democrats will not bring in this charge, which is clearly yet another stealth tax on the law abiding. "The Borough Council does not issue a Section 46 letter or fine to someone who over-fills their wheelie bin". However, please note, that if your bin is overfilled, it cannot be emptied. The bin lorries are only physically able to deal with bins with their lids closed, and falling bottles represent a real danger for binmen. However, we will not charge you £110 for the privilege of not emptying your bin. So, a bit of good news from the Liberal Democrats on the Council. |
