| Liberal Youth Canvassing in Parklands a Success 5th Jul 2008 |
Canvassing today was a huge success in Parklands ward, where Liberal Youth member Portia Wilson and Liberal Democrat Malcom Mildren are the sitting councillors. The response at the door was broadly positive, with most people sympathetic to our cause, and willing to hear us out. The work of the council was praised by virtually everyone, and the unpopularity of Gordon Brown, and his dictatorial government was shown. Liberal Youth member Andreas Christodoulou almost laughed, as he claimed five houses in a row where the occupants said to him, when asked about their voting intentions, "Probably the Lib Dems, but I tell you one thing, I'm certainly not voting for Gordon Brown". The hard work of Lib Dem council members has undoubtably paid off with much increased support over the year, even though the entire first year of us holding the council has been filled up with us fixing the mess left by the Tories. Next year, and subsequent years will see even more improvements in services now that the finances are better. This whole process goes to show the local popularity of the Lib Dems, and leads us up for victory in the next General Election, whenever Gordon Brown dares to call it. |
