OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!
26th Apr 2009 18:35:01
There's absolutely no point to this post, by the way, I'm just having a laugh. Let's just check out the British Media's calm and measured response to a flu outbreak in Mexico:
Killer Pig Flu Threat from the Daily Mail. The Times reminds us that the outbreak is so bad that Americans have to wear masks, although it does downgrade "have to" to "have been advised to" in the very first paragraph.
A shockingly common occurance that, headlines saying one things, and then the first couple of paragraphs saying the actual thing that happened.
Even the BBC is into it. It reminds us that the flu is a "potential pandemic". The Indie tells us that Alan Johnson says the UK is on "constant alert" over the flu threat. Oh, no, wait, the "deadly swine flu".
I mean, honest to God, I could go about quoting over-excited journalists all day. Anyone remember Bird Flu? Remember the tens of millions of people who died because of it? Remember fearing for your life everytime you went outside? Remember the billions of dying people across the world? No?
Oh yeah, that's because 250-odd people died in total, equating to approximately one death per 1,600 column inches written in newspapers across the world.
